YARRINGTON EXTENSION
(formerly called RM 150 Alignment Project)
Hays County is planning for a new alignment of RM 150 from Yarrington Road near I-35 northward to the existing RM 150 west of Arroyo Ranch. This project, initially proposed in 2014, aims to improve safety and reduce congestion along the current RM 150 route and downtown Kyle. Additionally, it seeks to strengthen the transportation network in this rapidly growing region.
PROJECT FEATURES

Construction of a two-lane undivided road, with plans for expansion into a four-lane divided road in the future from Yarrington Road near I-35 northward to the existing RM 150 west of Arroyo Ranch
-
10-foot Shared Use Path on both sides of the roadway
-
Medians varying in width from 6 to 40 feet
-

120‘ ROW Typical Section

185‘ ROW Typical Section
NEXT STEPS
With the completion of the schematic design, Hays County is beginning the Plans, Specifications, and Estimates (PS&E) and right-of-way acquisition project phases.
-
PS&E is the detailed design phase necessary for moving toward construction. This phase includes additional survey work, refined design drawings, and specifications for materials and construction requirements.
-
Right-of-way acquisition involves negotiating with landowners to acquire the necessary rights to portions of their property required for the project. The new roadway alignment will require a right-of-way width ranging from 120 to 185 feet. The county and project team will collaborate closely with affected property owners throughout the acquisition process.

PROJECT BACKGROUND
The County first began studying the RM 150 roadway in 2014. The schematic design was developed through a comprehensive evaluation of environmental constraints, input from property owners in the area, public engagement sessions, and technical analyses. These analyses considered key factors such as traffic volumes, access requirements, sight distances, water quality, drainage needs, and other critical design criteria. The feasibility study, conducted from 2014 to 2024, included 6 public meetings and close coordination with property owners and stakeholders.
